Damn, this team really can’t catch a break can they. Just when the Reds rip off four straight wins and look like they’re getting a little momentum as the All-Star break approaches, our starting shortstop, a guy who really looked like he was starting to turn a corner goes down with an ugly knee injury. Hate to see that happen. I’m no doctor, but I’d be shocked if something wasn’t ripped/torn and we were able to see Zack back on the field this season. Next in line to fill in at short is Eugenio Suarez, the 22 year old prospect acquired from the Tigers in the Alfredo Simon trade, a guy I had predicted would make an impact at some point this season (no big deal or anything). I guess we’ll figure out whether or not Suarez can make some noise at short, but no doubt the Reds are going to miss Cozart’s presence, especially on defense. That’s not a knock on Suarez at all, Cozart is just that good in the field and was in the midst of a career year at the plate. Stay tuned for more updates on Cozart’s official diagnosis.
Prayers up for Zack.
