So maybe that isn’t too much of a stretch seeing as a ton of publications are calling Dre one of this year’s major breakout candidates, but I guess a lot of that depends on your definition of “breakout.” Breakout as in a solid starter that plays 30-40 snaps a game or breakout as in Deion in his prime? OK, let’s not get crazy, but I don’t think it’s a stretch at all to think that Dre could be repping the stripes in … come February. I’m not just saying that to get attention and sound like I know what I’m talking about like the asshole bandwagon fans at your office either. I think there’s some real substance here. Look at Dre in action yesterday
That’s one on one, in your shorts coverage against one of the best receivers in the game. Dre’s got the skills to pay the bills, no doubt, which is why he was a first round pick. Speaking of first round picks, the Bengals have a track record of having those first round DB’s pan out in one way or another under Marvin Lewis. Homegrown first rounders like Leon and J Joe as well as guys who were brought in like Terence Newman and Pacman have all had success under the tooliage of Marvin. Dre has as much talent as any of those dudes. Hell, he’s already taken Leon’s spot on the depth chart and if he shows as much improvement from last year to this year as he did from 2013 to 2014, I think there is a legit, real, not blowing smoke up your ass chance that Dre shows everyone that the first round pick we spent was for more than just a glorified gunner on the punt team.
Now all we need is for the offense to come around and maybe we can win a few games this season. Whaddaya say now, boys?
