The man suspected in a Monday carjacking who police said tried to evade arrest by stealing a cruiser and running across Interstate 71, is now also accused trying to flee from court Tuesday.
Zachary Cox, 25, tried to flee on foot after his arraignment at the Hamilton County Justice Center. After a short foot pursuit, sheriff’s court and jail officers captured Cox before he exited the building, according to a new release from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s office.
Police arrested Cox after he entered a vehicle on southbound I-71 near Reading Road, implied he had a gun and made the driver drive him around at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, according to a police report.
At some point, Cox left the vehicle and fled on foot on the side of the roadway, according to court documents.
A Cincinnati police officer spotted Cox on northbound I-71 near Reading Road and tried to stop him but Cox ran into a wooded area along the interstate, police said.
Several minutes later, Cox returned to the police cruiser and tried to steal it but the officer stopped him, police said.
Cox then ran across the northbound and southbound lanes of the interstate before he was shot with a Taser gun and arrested.
Authorities closed the right lane of southbound I-71 just before the Reading Road exit to make the arrest around 3:20 p.m.
Cox had two previous warrants for theft and receiving stolen property.
Along with those charges, he is accused of aggravated robbery, theft, and resisting arrest.
“Don’t half ass two things, whole ass one thing.”
As sappy as this may sound, everyone is put on this Earth for a reason. Some people are doctors, some people are lawyers, some people save sick kids in the poorest parts of the world, some people fight for the freedom of others, some people go a different route and choose a life of crime. I’ll never condone that. If you make a living preying on innocent civilians and taking other people’s stuff you’re a piece of shit scumbag and I hate you. Personally I only try to be a scumbag on the Internet, never in real life, but I’ll always have a soft spot for those who put everything they have into their craft and never stop their pursuit of excellence. So, yea, maybe stealing police cruisers and running from the cops isn’t the best idea in the world, but if you can’t stop won’t stop stealing police cars and you’re already staring at certain time in the clink, maybe you have to just double down, make a break for the exit, and hope for the best. At worst you’re going to end up right back where you started which is right back in that court room cuffed to a hard wooden bench listening to some crusty old magistrate throw the book at you. Classic feet are taped to the bicycle scenario.
