The Enquirer has confirmed that Pro Bowl linebacker Vontaze Burfict will return to practice for the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday afternoon. He received medical clearance to resume activities from his surgeon, Dr. Neal ElAttrache, during a trip to California earlier in the week.
The 21-day “clock” on making a decision on Burfict now begins for the team. Burfict can work out under a roster exemption, but in order to activate him to the 53-man roster, the team will have to make a corresponding roster move by releasing a player.
I’ve been waiting for oh so long to say this, but TEZ BYKE! God, it feels good to finally say that. Am I just a tad too excited for a guy who’s been on the PUP list for six weeks to start practicing again? Probably, but I just want everyone to understand how big of a deal it is for a 6-0 Super Bowl contending team to add arguably one of the best defensive players in the NFL. Can’t be stated enough. Of course it remains to be seen how much of a workload Tez can handle at this point or whether or not he’ll even be activated for Sunday’s game in Pittsburgh, but so far it looks like Burfict’s return is right on schedule. At the beginning of the year everyone’s fingers were crossed that the defense would be able to tread water long enough unitl after the bye week when Vontaze would be eligible to return, and barring any major setbacks it sure looks like that plan is as good as money right now.
