Former Reds Johnny Cueto, Edinson Volquez, Jonny Gomes Celebrate World Series Victory

A tradition as old as time itself. Play your ass off here in the Queen City for years and never win a God damn thing, then head somewhere else and win a championship ring. It’s the Cincinnati way. Johnny, Jonny, and Eddie Volquez join the likes of Corey Dillon, Oscar Robertson, and many others who’ve gotten to taste that championship champagne after skipping town. I’m legitimately happy for those guys, though. Normally, I have no problem admitting I’m a jelous biotch when it comes to these sorts of things, but I have no ill will against any of these guys. My affinity for/mini love affair with Johnny Beisbol has been well documented on this site, Jonny Gomes was a personal favorite of mine along with many other Reds fans, and Edinson Volquez may just be one of the more underrated Redlegs of the past two decades. Eddie was an absolute ace in his time here and probably won’t get the love he truly deserves because he pitched on some bad, bad Reds teams. Gotta be that much sweeter for him too given everything that’s happened with his Dad and all.

Congrats to Johnny Cueto, Jonny Gomes, and Edinson Volquez on their World Series victory. Maybe we’ll get ’em one day. Probably not though.
