Bengals Make It Official, Sign Veterans Karlos Dansby, Brandon LaFell

HA! Take that, NFL. You thought the Bengals weren’t even going to make it to the free agency party, but it looks like we just decided to show up fashionably late. Adding LB depth with Dansby and a possible replacement for Marvin Jones/Mo Sanu at the WR2 position were needs we knew the Bengals were going to have to address, it just took them a little longer than most to get there.

Let’s start with Dansby. 5 years ago, this would have been a HUGE signing, as Dansby was one of the more dominant defenders in the league, but even though he’s getting up there in age and miles, Dansby should be a huge addition to our defense. I looked up Dansby’s stats the other day when rumors were floating around that he was going to be making a visit to Cincinnati and I’m not sure how many people realize this, but last year with the Browns Dansby had 108 tackles last year for the Browns. That’s still pretty fucking stout for a linebacker in the NFL, especially for a guy who figures to be the third or fourth guy in our LB corp.

LaFell on the other hand figures to be a little bit more of a question mark. Jody Breeze really came into his own a couple seasons ago in New England, but everyone knows you sort of have to take that with a grain of salt. Not saying that Andy won’t have success if LaFell ends up locking down the WR2 spot, but even I could throw on some pads and probably catch 60 or so passes with Tom Brady slinging me the ball. I’m still not totally ruling out that we won’t add a WR at some point in this draft either. No matter what, LaFell can’t end up being worse than our last big free agent WR acquisition. Literally that’s impossible.

Now all we need to do is figure out a way to re-sign Reggie Nelson and I can go ahead and pre-order my 2017 Cincinnati Bengals Super Bowl Champions commemorative Sports Illustrated package.

PS- For the life of me, I still can’t figure out why no one has picked up Nelson yet. Not just the Bengals, but like no one in the entire NFL. Even at his age, Nelson is still a perennial Pro Bowl player. Maybe it’s the mileage or the injury in the playoffs last year or maybe people are just now remembering that Reggie was once named as an accomplice to an Aaron Hernandez shooting way back in college? You gotta be a mean motherfucker to play defense in the NFL and I ride or die with my guys. Innocent until proven guilty.

About Q-Ball

Owner, operator AKA The Commish. Q-Ball is that asshole at the office who refuses to brew a fresh pot of coffee. Not because he doesn't want to, he's just too embarrassed to admit that he doesn't know how.
